Financial Consultation
A working session over your own numbers, aimed at the decision you are actually trying to make.
- Bookkeeping & accounting
- Accurate & organized
- Work directly with the owner
- Call, email or WhatsApp
What we do
Most owners already have a question. Can I afford to take someone on. Why is the account low in a month that looked good. Is this line of work worth keeping. What they do not have is an hour with someone who will open the numbers and answer it.
A financial consultation is that hour. We look at your actual figures, not a general template, and work through the question in front of you. Where the cash goes and when it runs thin. Which work carries its own weight once you account for what it costs to deliver. What a hire or a purchase would do to the months after it. What a realistic budget for the period ahead looks like given what the business has done so far.
You leave with a straight answer where the numbers support one, and a clear statement of what is still unknown where they do not. We would rather tell you the figures cannot settle a question than dress up a guess as advice.
What is included
- A read of your current financial position
- Cash flow: where it goes and when it gets tight
- Profitability by job, service, or product line
- Pricing and margin questions
- Budgeting and forecasting for the period ahead
- Planning around a hire, a purchase, or a financing application
- A short written summary of what we covered and what to do next
How it works
Before we meet, we look at whatever records you have, so the session is spent on your question rather than on background. If the records are thin or out of date we will say so, because an answer drawn from unreliable figures is worse than no answer.
In the session we work through the question directly, showing you where each figure comes from so you can follow the reasoning rather than take it on trust. We will disagree with you if the numbers do that.
Afterwards you get a short written summary: what we looked at, what it showed, and the next steps worth taking. Bring the question to Javier by phone at (305) 748-1367, by email at [email protected], or on WhatsApp.
Who financial consultation is for
- Owners weighing a hire, a piece of equipment, or a new location
- Businesses that look busy and profitable but keep running short on cash
- Anyone who suspects some of their work is losing money and cannot prove which
- Owners setting prices on instinct who want to check them against the numbers
- Businesses preparing a budget or a forecast for the period ahead
- Owners who want someone to walk them through their own statements properly
Profit on paper, nothing in the account
One of the most common reasons an owner sits down with their numbers is that the two things they can see disagree. The profit and loss says the business made money. The bank account says otherwise. Both can be true at once, and the reason is usually timing rather than error.
Profit is recorded when work is done and invoiced. Cash arrives when the customer pays, which may be weeks later, while wages, stock, loan payments, and tax set aside all leave on their own schedule. Growth makes the gap wider, because you fund more work before the money for it arrives. Working through it means mapping when cash actually enters and leaves rather than what the period totals say, and that map is what tells you whether a tight month is a scheduling problem or a real one.
Deciding with numbers instead of instinct
Most decisions a small business owner makes get made on a feel for how things are going, and that feel is often close to right. It fails in specific places. It tends to be optimistic about what a busy period leaves behind, it underestimates what a hire costs once everything is counted, and it rarely notices that one steady line of work has been subsidized by another.
A consultation puts a figure next to the instinct and sees whether they agree. Sometimes they do, and you go ahead with more confidence than you had. Sometimes the numbers say something else, and it is worth knowing before the commitment rather than after. Either way you want the reasoning shown, not just the conclusion, so you can check it yourself and use the same method next time.
What happens in a financial consultation?
A financial consultation is a working session over your own figures, focused on a specific question rather than a general review. It usually covers your current position, where cash actually goes across a month, which parts of the business carry their own costs, and what a planned change would do to the months that follow. A useful session ends with a decision you can act on, or a clear statement of what you would need to know before making it. JE Ledger runs these sessions for small business owners. Financial Consultation FAQs
What should I bring to a consultation?
Whatever records you have, even if they are incomplete, and the question you want answered. The clearer the question, the more useful the hour. If your records are not in a state to answer it, we will tell you what needs sorting first.
My books are not up to date. Is a consultation still worth it?
It can be, as long as we are honest about what the figures can and cannot support. Sometimes the most useful outcome is knowing exactly which gap is stopping you from answering your own question, and what it would take to close it.
Can you tell me whether I can afford to hire someone?
We can work through it with you: what the role actually costs once everything is counted, what the business currently produces, and how the cash position would look in the months after the hire. The decision stays yours, but it gets made against real figures.
Do I need to be a bookkeeping client to book a consultation?
No. Some owners keep their own books and just want a second read on them. Others come with one decision to make. Get in touch and tell us what you are trying to work out.
What does a financial consultation cost?
It depends on the scope of the question and how much preparation the records need beforehand. Call (305) 748-1367 or email [email protected] with what you are trying to decide, and we will tell you what it would involve.
